A little bit about me.Collapse )

assorted lists of 2012

So, I sort of fell down on this towards the end of last year, not really keeping up with the books I was reading or the movies I was watching. But I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things this year. I'll be compressing the lists into one post, for now, though I might split them up later. Also this year, I'm adding in a list of the theatre performances I'm seeing, whether I'm going with a ticket, ushering, or working them.

20 seconds of your time, please!

This post is unlocked, so feel free to spread the link around! (In fact, please do!)

I am a volunteer usher at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas. We are up for a $25,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This would help the Paramount so much, because in addition to needing to raise money every year (beyond the proceeds from tickets and concessions) just to keep the theatre up and running, we are currently experiencing plumbing issues that are costing us a lot to take care of.

Today, my mom and I were sitting out in front of the Paramount from 11 - 2, hoping to catch people in the downtown area on their lunch breaks, to ask them to take a few quick seconds to fill out a short form (name, email, zip code) to cast a vote for us. In three hours, we got about 45 votes (that's an average of 15 per hour, or one every four minutes, for you math geeks like me). Meanwhile, we had at least three - four times that number of people walk past our table. Many deliberately ignored us, shifting their umbrellas to block their faces as they walked past our table, or just walking past without hesitating or looking our way. A few were rushing off to meetings, but promised to come back if we were still there (and some of them did!).

It takes all of 20 - 30 seconds to fill out the form. It doesn't matter if you're from the area or not. We're not going to sell your e-mail address to anyone, we're not going to spam you or add you to any mailing lists. You will get an e-mail from the National Trust, thanking you for your vote, but that's all.

Please, take 20 seconds out of your day to go here and cast a vote for the Paramount Theatre. All you have to do is fill out your name, e-mail, and zip code (you can put in a fake name if you want! If you're from another country and your zip code doesn't work, enter 78701, that's the one for downtown Austin) in the form on the right side, unclick the box that says "Yes, I would like to receive e-mail from National Trust for Historic Preservation" and hit the Submit button.

Twenty seconds of your day, and you can help keep a piece of history up and running. The theatre is 95 years old. 94 years ago, Harry Houdini performed there! Robert Rodriguez has premiered two movies there just this summer (Predators and Machete). Please, help us keep creating history every day! (Read about our history here!)

so

Working tonight. Traded in a Nutcracker I was just going to usher for working Sister's Christmas Catechism (which is hilarious!) in the small theatre. I haven't worked the small theatre before, so I'm a bit nervous. :/ Hopefully someone else will take over for my mom for the Nutcracker (she's sick and was supposed to be working tonight) so that at least there'll be another House Manager downstairs so I'm not completely alone and/or double-duty-ing it (managing not only my show and my ushers, but also the downstairs ticket-takers for Nutcracker).

Sigh.

Anyway! In other news, and the reason this post isn't locked:

If you're a fan of the show Criminal Minds, you should come join crimeland! It's lots of fun with tons of fun games to win points for your team. Our second case is just starting, so mosey on over and join! :D (And let them know I sent ya! ;D)
